PRE-ORDER: WAH-WAH x ARETHA BROWN

It is with great honour that WAH-WAH has teamed up with Gumbaynggirr and Naarm based artist Aretha Brown to raise funds for the National Indigenous Youth Education Coalition (NIYEC).

Aretha has become well known for her deeply personal and striking black and white murals which speak to her experience as a first nations artist living and working in an urban environment. Alongside her art practice, she has also campaigned tirelessly to bring awareness to the lack of Indigenous education taught in schools through her work with the NIYEC and as the former Prime Minister for the National Indigenous Youth Parliament.

“We can’t have discussions around treaty or make any political decisions in this country, unless we are educated! And it all starts in school…As young people, we have power in what we are taught, how its told, who’s perspectives and for who’s benefit.” - Aretha Brown

So what does it mean to “KNOW Y/OUR HISTORY, DECOLONISE Y/OUR FUTURE”? Aretha has generously put together the following resource for allies to question their allyship and relationship to colonisation.

 Read all 74 questions here.

The artwork featured in this design was originally commissioned by Naarm based photographer Jamie Wdziekonski as a book cover for a photojournalistic documentation of Indigenous social justice rallies in Naarm over the last 6 years. The book is set to be released in late 2021.

This design is an Ally friendly purchase, as approved by Aretha Brown herself. 100% of the profits (after artist royalties) will be paid to NIYEC.
