WHEN YOU MENTION THE WORDS “SUSTAINABLE FASHION”, AN IMAGE OF LOOSE FITTING HEMP GARMENTS IN NEUTRAL COLOURS PROBABLY COMES TO MIND.

THAT’S NICE, BUT IT’S NOT WAH-WAH.

WAH-WAH garments are made from superfine merino wool, a renewable, biodegradable and hard-wearing fibre. The older styles are made in Sydney. We love these locally made jumpers. They are 80% wool and 20% nylon. They will seriously last forever!!! However, in an effort to create a 100% biodegradable product, we have started working with a knitwear manufacturer in China who can produce small runs of knitwear in the most luxurious 100% superfine merino. We’ve managed to reduce single use plastic by sourcing environmentally friendly hydropol garment bags that dissolve in hot water, and all orders will be packaged and shipped in compostable bags.

WAH-WAH is all about collaboration, and without the incredible artistic output of the bands and artists we work with, we would be just another clothing label. For each jumper sold, a percentage is given to the artist. Fair pay for fair work also extends to our manufacturers in both Australia and China.

I say “we”, because I get to work with so many incredible people throughout the process of creating these knits – artists, bands and the many workers who help to sample and produce the garments. But WAH-WAH HQ is actually a one-woman show run by me, Kaylene, from my apartment in Sydney Australia. The brand operates primarily on pre-orders. The reason is two-fold: I don’t have room to store excess stock, and I also don’t want to produce more than there is a demand for. There is nothing sadder than a lovingly made garment with no one to wear it. With that in mind, we hope you wear your WAH-WAH for a long time, or pass it on to someone else who will give it a new lease on life.

WAH-WAH respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land on which we work and live, the Bidjigal and Gadigal People of the Eora nation, and pay respect to their cultures, their ancestors and their Elders past, present and emerging.
