"If you know a better hole, go to it..."
Most WAH-WAH customers probably know that WAH-WAH is an Australian company (it's in the name!)... but did you know that we are situated on Dharawal Country in the city of Wollongong?
Situated on the east coast of New South Wales, an hour or so South of Sydney, the magical city of Wollongong has long been a hub of social consciousness. With its working-class roots, radical labour politics and diverse communities, Wollongong has fostered a vibrant cultural scene. It is a place where political activism and do-it-yourself culture collide in an explosion of art, film, fashion and music!
WAH-WAH x GREETINGS FROM WOLLONGONG features the iconic work of Redback Graphix (1979–1994), including their poster and postcard art for the underground film gem, Greetings From Wollongong (1982) by director Mary Callaghan (1955-2016). The resulting jumper celebrates the spirit of resistance and expression that defines both Wollongong and WAH-WAH!
Redback Graphix, Michael Callaghan, Mary Callaghan, (Gregor Cullen), Nick Southall, printer’s assistant, Greetings from Wollongong, 1982, colour screenprint on paper.
The Callaghan family have chosen to donate all artist royalties to SAHSSI – a not-for-profit Specialist Homelessness Service supporting vulnerable women and families in the Illawarra and Shoalhaven regions.
